I may have finally figured out why some today think we are responsible for what others did centuries ago....it's in the bible
by StoneWall inwe all know how adam and eve are supposedly responsible for selling all of mankind into sin and thus becoming "slaves to sin".so what they did (if it's not a fairy tale) affected all of the humans that would come after them.then at exodus 34:7 it goes on to show the sins of the father being passed down to the third and fourth generations7 "keeping lovingkindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
" (asv)even though i no longer look to the bible or regard it as i once did, i'm just trying to figure where some in today's world can even get the idea others are responsible for things that were done before they were born.
only religion can make people feel guilty for things they never did/done or were a part of and then make others feel as if they're entitled to something..

This was about the individual who actually did the wrong doing.
(John 8:10,11) Then Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” 11“No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”

Stonewall - we obviously have a different take on things.
I view the True God as Holy. He is Almighty and all his ways are justice and it does not belong to us to question Him because He gave life and He alone has the right to take life.
But from your perspective, you might be viewing Him as a gorilla with a hand grenade. If that is the case, I'd be cautious with that gorilla.
Now if there is no gorilla and no hand grenade, you're fine.

FYI a fairy tale starts 'once upon a time.' The Bible, not just at the start but throughout, maps everything within an extraordinarily accurate timeframe.
Try moving beyond Exodus 34
(John 3:16) 16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. . .
(John 8:10,11) Then Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” 11“No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”

Scholar you are talking Bul
(1 Kings 6:37-38) . . .In the fourth year the house of Jehovah had its foundation laid, in the lunar month of Ziv; 38 and in the eleventh year, in the lunar month of Bul, that is, the eighth month, the house was finished as regards all its details and all its plan; so that he was seven years at building it. . .
(1 Kings 6:1) And it came about in the four hundred and eightieth year after the sons of Israel came out from the land of Egypt, in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv, that is, the second month, after Sol′o‧mon became king over Israel, that he proceeded to build the house to Jehovah. -

JoenB75 - in some of the newer books they've got Jesus looking like a grumpy elder ready to club someone. When he's not grumpy they make sure he looks boring or wet but rarely appealing.
Are the Watchtower not Preterist? They see Christ as having returning in 1799, 1874, 1914. Looking back in history others had their own idea on dates, including the 1st century. Isn't that what the Catholic church uses to justify it's role?
Forgive me if I have misunderstood the concept of Preterism. It's a while since I read up on it.
The grace of God that is available through Jesus is not something to be taken for granted and treated of little value, so that you can do what you want. But GB take it to an extreme and replace Jesus Christ with themselves. If they carry on, they are going to be in big trouble.
I don't view the scriptures below as something that happened in the past. They are for each of us to keep in mind, knowing that we are accountable for our actions. If I had ignored them I would still be in the Watchtower because what difference would it make if I went along with a bunch of liars?
Heb 10:29 - How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Luke 12:4,5 And I say to you, my friends, Have no fear of those who may put the body to death, and are able to do no more than that. But I will make clear to you of whom you are to be in fear: of him who after death has power to send you to Gehenna; yes, truly I say, Have fear of him.

Do you realise your the cause of all the problems in the whirld? And don't try telling me you are a good cause and people give generously to you. That's being fastesious.

Scholar - Hebrew nation does not equal inspired Scriptures - Ziv is 2nd month throughout Bible. I've quoted the scriptural refs previously. Please feel free to reread if you find them helpful.

Oh that'd really draw you to Jesus Christ wouldn't it! Good grief! How horrible.
Thanks for sharing JoenB75 - never knew about that.
This is the Jesus from the Scriptures -
(Matthew 11:28-30) . . .Come to me, all YOU who are toiling and loaded down, and I will refresh YOU. 29 Take my yoke upon YOU and learn from me, for I am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and YOU will find refreshment for YOUR souls. 30 For my yoke is kindly and my load is light.. . .
